Margaret M. "Peg" McDevitt (nee Garber), age 85, of Drexel Hill, PA, passed away on February 27, 2015 at Fair Acres Geriatric Center in Lima, PA.
Born in Philadelphia to the late George and Anna (nee Hobart) Garber, Peg was a graduate of Notre Dame High School. She worked for the Philadelphia Bulletin for 30 years, until they closed in 1981. Following the Bulletin, Peg worked as a crossing guard at Lynn Blvd and West Chester Pike in Upper Darby.
Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband John J. McDevitt, Sr., for whom she lovingly cared for 15 years after he lost his leg.
Peg enjoyed summers at Garden Lake Court, Wildwood, NJ where she would sit by the lake with her husband watching her grandchildren enjoy the water. She was known for the best homemade iced tea and enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She would ask almost every pregnant woman she would see for her address so she could knit a pair of booties and send them to her. Those baby booties were all over the area and they were beautiful. Peg was also the best coupon shopper ever, she always came home with cash and her order. Peggy taught her husband and grandchildren to drive and was the family's own personal driving instructor.
Peg is survived by her beloved son, John J. McDevitt, Jr. (Debbie), her dear grandchildren Colleen (Donato) Sciole, Amy (Chris) Ruggierio, Kelly (Justin) Santangelo, Courtney Donato and Carlye Dunleavy. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter as well as her sister-in-law Sara Rowe, many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband Peg was pre-deceased by her beloved son James G. McDevitt and her only sister Ann (the late Victor) Darmiento who also passed recently.
