Margaret M. Smith

September 24, 1940 — July 15, 2023

Margaret “Peggy” M. Smith, 82, of West Chester passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023. She was born in Philadelphia, PA and lived there until 1975 when she moved to Cresskill, NJ. Peggy was a proud graduate of Little Flower Catholic High School in Philadelphia and went on to earn her certificate as an XRay Technician from the School of X-ray Technology at Misericordia Hospital in Philadelphia. She worked as an X-ray and mammogram technician at various offices throughout her 50+ year career.

Peggy was a parishioner at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish in Cresskill where she served as president of the Scapular Confraternity. She brought her strong faith and love of the Blessed Mother with her when she moved to West Chester and could often be found helping to lead others in the weekly praying of the rosary.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with and hearing from her 6 grandchildren. She supported and encouraged them through every step of their lives. Peggy was so excited to finally join the great grandmothers’ club when Theo was born.

Besides her family, her other loves included Hallmark Christmas movies, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Philadelphia Phillies, and Big East Basketball.

Peggy was the beloved daughter of the late Nicholas and Margaret (nee Burke) Kenny.

She is survived by her children, Theresa Emmert (Gerry), Kathleen Foster (John), and Brian Smith (Kelly); sibling, Tom Kenny (Judy); grandchildren, Annemarie (Nate), Emily, Colin, Abby, Sean, and Annika, great grandson Theo and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Peggy was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph Smith, siblings Kathleen Kenny, and Maryann (nee Kenny) and her husband Bill Stickley and sister-in-law Norma (nee Freeby) Kenny.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and funeral mass Friday, July 21 at SS Simon and Jude, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM followed by her funeral mass at 11:30 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Little Flower Catholic High School, 1000 W. Lycoming Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140 – littleflowerhighschool.org or to The Wounded Warrior Project – woundedwarriorproject.org are greatly appreciated.
