Margarett L. Freeman (nee Fleming)

Margarett (Peggie) L. Freeman, age 83, of Philadelphia PA, passed away on December 27, 2022. Peggie was born on September 5, 1939, at Osteopathic Hospital, to James and Elzie Fleming (nee Newton). She was baptized at St. Monica Episcopal Church in 1940 and converted to Catholicism at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in 1946. She was educated in Catholic and Public schools and graduated from Murrell Dobbins Vocational Technical School, with a degree in Beauty Culture, in 1957. She was employed as a beautician at Lossie’s Beauty Salon for many years. She later worked at Rosemont College as a cafeteria cashier, until retiring. She was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Rosary, Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament, and St. Cyprian Catholic Church.  Although not an active member in Church ministry, Peggie often visited sick and homebound Church members. She would also grocery shop for her elderly former beauty shop customers.

Peggie met Kelly Freeman and they were married in 1967. She loved to be surrounded by family and friends. She was always willing to help out and give advice. She loved warm weather, fishing, playing card games (especially pinochle and Uno), gardening, feeding the birds and watching sports.

In addition to her parents, Peggie was predeceased by her siblings Doris (Dutchie) Robbin Jones, James Elliott Fleming, Beatrice Elaine Smith, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Fleming, Katherine (Kay) Mary  Johnson, Anthony (Tony) Delano Fleming and William (Bill) Arthur Fleming, and great-grandchild, Jelani Maximilien Cobb Graham. 

Those left to love and cherish Peggie’s memories are: her children Vanessa Wilson (Kenneth), Marvin Hunt (Beatrice Joyner) and Waldence Perry (the late Veronica); her siblings, George Fleming (Kim), Clayton Fleming (the late Thyra), Teresa Fleming, and Carolyn Fleming; grandchildren, Jeffery  Graham, Brian Graham, Cordell Graham (Danielle), Marvin Johnson (Chaneasin), Isaiah Perry,  Jamilah Moore, and Askari Moore; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Graham, Aniyah Graham,  Giovanni Graham, Llamore ( LJ) Hand, Cailin Johnson, and Ashton Johnson; in-laws, Scarlet (Viv)  Fleming, Coy Freeman (Molly), Rosa Green, Johnnie Ruth Brown (Clamon), Patty Ann Freeman (the late Raymond), and Angela Freeman (the late Peter), and many cousins, nieces and nephews.   

Peggie’s viewing will be on Thursday, January 5, 2022 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM at St. Cyprian Catholic Church, 525 Cobbs Creek Parkway, Philadelphia PA, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment at Westminster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd PA.
