Marilyn C. Harris (nee Canon), 80, of West Chester, PA passed away on March 8, 2015.
Born in New Castle, PA in 1934, she was the daughter of the late C. Wayne and Elizabeth (nee Haering) Canon.
Marilyn was the beloved wife of James J. Harris; loving mother of Elizabeth M. Helmich (Robert) of West Chester and Nancy H. Marvel (Paul) of Malvern; and loving grandmother of Katherine Helmich, Julia Helmich and Kristen Marvel.
Marilyn received her R.N. from Shadyside Hospital and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education. She taught nursing at Shadyside Hospital and was very proud of her students, remaining in contact with them throughout her life. Marilyn loved animals and her home was never without pets. She volunteered at the SPCA, visited nursing homes with her beloved maltese, planted hummingbird gardens and had a dozen bird feeders so no bird would go hungry.
She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, often volunteering to share her musical gifts at church. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, visiting much of the United States, various spots in Europe and many Catholic shrines. A special memory for her was sitting by a turf fire in Ireland after exploring her Irish roots. She was active in church throughout her life and also volunteered for community organizations, such as Meals on Wheels. Most of all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 7:00-9:00 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2015 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382, 610-431-9000 and 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh CT., West Chester, PA 19382, followed by her Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m.
