MARJORIE RAIL CAMPBELL, 97, of Wayne, PA passed away on May 12, 2017 at her home.
Marjorie was a treasured "down under" girl born in April 1920 in Perth, Western Australia.
She was predeceased by her sister Joan Jenkinson and her loving husband, Edward, a highly decorated lieutenant submariner in the Navy who was stationed at the Fremantle submarine base in Australia during World War II.
Married in Australia on Nov. 18, 1943 to what would be her husband for 67 years, Marj traveled on the high seas on a troop ship to California and onward to Philadelphia to join her newly married mate there. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, an excellent cook and a true hostess with the mostess.
She also was the book keeper for Great Valley Industries, the family-run business that started with $3,000 and grew to a multi-million dollar company.
In 1985, the Campbell's retired and moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida where they lived at the Sugar Mill Country Club. Marjorie and Ed spent their time on the golf course and "at the club" and off the greens playing tennis, cards and spending time with other Pennsylvania snowbirds. Also known as 'Roo' after the Aussie kangaroo, Marj had a passion for gardening and her "green thumb" became her legacy in both Wayne and New Smyrna Beach.
She is survived by her son, Geoffrey; and her daughter Barbara and husband James; and her daughter Lorraine and husband Lawrence. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; Jennifer, Kristin, Carolyn, Todd, David, LeiLu and MaeLei. Marjorie was predeceased by her grandson, Jeb whom she adored; and was blessed with 6 great-grandchildren, Sydney, Braeden, Campbell, Grayson, Holden and Kylie.
Her twin daughters, Lorraine and Barbara and their families cared for her in their homes for the last 7 years of her life. Marjorie passed on Friday May 12th in the home she and Ed built in Wayne in 1953, with family at her bedside.
A gathering to celebrate this beautiful "down under" girl is yet to be determined.
