Mark E. Crater, age 53, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on February 23, 2016. Born in Canton, OH and raised in Lansing, MI, he was the son of Gordon Crater and the late Wanda Crater (nee Folger).
He was a graduate of J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing, MI and a lifelong fan of Michigan State University. He graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. He served in the United States Coast Guard until 1990 and was a member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. He worked as a Civil Engineer at Capital Project Management, Inc. in Blue Bell, PA.
Mark had a second career as a high school math teacher from 2007-2011 at Maritime Academy Charter High School in Philadelphia.
He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and was an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 512, where his son, Ross, also became an Eagle Scout. He was a member of Covenant Fellowship Church for 24 years and an active member in the Risen Hope Church Campus, Drexel Hill, PA.
In addition to his father, Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Karen A. Crater (nee Cooper), his loving children Alana N. Crater and Ross G. Crater, and his siblings Penny Sabrosky (Greg), Brad Crater (Melissa), Greg Crater (Sue), Jeff Crater and Tamara Farrell (Stefan).
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Sunday, February 28, 2016 6:00-7:00 PM Covenant Fellowship Church, 1 Fellowship Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342 and to attend his Memorial Service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mark's name to Risen Hope Church, c/o Covenant Fellowship Church at the above address or Boy Scouts of America, Cradle of Liberty Council, 1485 Valley Forge Road, Wayne, PA 19087 would be appreciated.
