Martin Dempsey

Martin J., age 85, of Devon, PA on May 8, 2013. Beloved husband of Kathleen Dempsey (nee Quinn). Dear father of Denise M. (John) Kane, Kathleen M. (Gregory) Woods, Mary C. (Peter) Hayes, Martin J. Jr. (Katherine), Jane M. (Stephen) McLean and the late Clare M. (Richard) Wellinghoff. Also survived by his 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Mary M. Straub, James A., John P. and Thomas J. Dempsey, grandfather of the late Tyler Q. Tracey. Mr. Dempsey was a graduate of St. Joseph Preparatory School in Philadelphia and a graduate of National Hardwood Lumber Association School in Memphis, TN where he was Class President. He was a retired Vice President for Alan McIlvain Company with 44 years of service. He was the third generation of the Dempsey family to work for the McIlvain Company. He served on the boards of Alan McIlvain Company, T.J. Dempsey Company, Continental Savings & Loans and the Upper Main Line YMCA.



Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 10-11 AM St. Monica Church, 635 First Avenue, Berwyn, PA followed by his Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to St. Joseph Preparatory School, 1733 W. Girard Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19130 or the Upper Main Line YMCA, 1416 Berwyn-Paoli Road, Berwyn, PA 19312 would be appreciated.
