Mary Ann Zimmermann

Mary Ann Zimmermann, 97, of Exton, PA, formerly of West Chester, PA, and Easton, PA, passed away August 30, 2023.

Born July 2, 1926 in Bloomsburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late W. Clair Hower and Elizabeth (nee Davenport).

Following her elementary school years, Mary Ann graduated from Cheltenham HS, PA.  She graduated as an RN from Bryn Mawr PA School of Nursing.  After her training, along with her devoted husband, she dedicated herself to raising their eight children, and they moved the family several times between PA and NJ.  Eventually, Mary Ann returned to the nursing profession, and worked in hospitals including Clara Maass Hospital in Belleville NJ, and Paoli Hospital PA, as a psychiatric nurse.

Mary Ann's life was centered on spreading her boundless love to others.  Throughout her many years, she was known for her beautiful smile and sparkling blue eyes.  Always positive, she approached her life with a joyfulness in all she did.  She used her natural musical talents in singing and participated in local church choirs. With her husband, she passed along the gift of music to their children and grandchildren.  She loved reading, listening to, and performing, classical music, opera, and show tunes, often sharing in this with her sister. Sometimes affectionately known as "Perky", Mary Ann spent hours in her kitchen, cooking and baking.  Often with a good cup of coffee, sometimes with a birch beer in hand, she enjoyed perusing her many cookbooks for new ideas and inspiration.  She created handwork (knitting, quilting, and sewing) and always had a project going.  She expanded in this hobby with her dear friends.  Mary Ann had a love for nature, spent time gardening, and was able to take many summer vacations with her family in the mountains and lakes of NH.  Family matriarch, she ran the show as listener, advisor, family liaison all with grace and patience.  Mary Ann's faith was deep.  She built all of her life's work on a foundation of her belief in God, a reverence for all things beautiful, and gratefulness for the Gifts that were showered upon her.

Mary Ann was the beloved wife of the late Carl K. Zimmermann (MARRIED 9/6/1947), loving mother of Elizabeth A. Mathews, Carl K. Zimmermann, John H. Zimmermann, Thomas D. Zimmermann, William J. Zimmermann, Susan Z. Nilsen, Peter C. Zimmermann, and Paul Zimmermann; adoring Grammy to 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and dear sister of Sally Hower Newman.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 9:30 AM to 10:20 AM, Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Ss. Philip and James Church,  107 N Ship Rd, Exton, PA 19341, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Burial at Gethsemane Cemetery, Easton, PA.
