Mary Anne Waller Pimley, 85, of Westtown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18th, 2023, surrounded by her loving husband, family and caregivers.
Mary Anne was born on May 30th, 1937, daughter to the late, Victor Leigh and Mary Ellen Waller (nee Burke). She grew up with her older brother, John, in Havertown, Pennsylvania. Mary Anne graduated from Notre Dame high school in 1955 as an exceptional student excelling in both English and Art. She also thrived as an athlete playing on the girls basketball team as their point guard. After high school, Mary Anne went on to work at DuPont Chemicals until she was married in 1958.
Mary Anne met the love of her life, Andy, while she was still in high school. Their romance began when Andy worked up the nerve to ask her out at the Brightspot diner with a fateful question – “Hey Shorty, need a ride home?” And what a ride they had for more than 64 years! Mary Anne and Andy built a wonderful life together over the course of their marriage. She and Andy loved their home in Westtown along with spending summers down at the shore. Mary Anne cherished her time at the beach, enjoyed watching her kids play in the sand and water, and delighted in the conversations she had with friends there.
Mary Anne was a phenomenal mom to her children and grandmom to her grandchildren. She absolutely adored kids and, in many ways, was “the neighborhood mom” to so many. She would frequently welcome her kids and their friends into her home to have lunch, sleep over, or just hangout and talk with her. If you ever spent time in the Pimley household, then you surely also had a glass of Mary Anne’s famous homemade mint iced tea - her refrigerator was never without a gallon ready to be sipped. She dedicated her life to raising her kids and supporting her husband. She put all of herself into her vocation as a mother. She was always willing to listen and offer advice. Mary Anne was warm, caring and incredibly loving.
Mary Anne was also very devout in her faith. She and her husband attended Mass daily and for many years and they volunteered to be present at Adoration each week on the Church’s behalf. She spent time in prayer each day and had a special connection to the Virgin Mother and St. Jude.
Mary Anne was an active member of Ss. Simon and Jude church as well as the parish school. For many years, she helped at the school assisting classroom activities; worked as a school recess monitor; volunteered at the various church fairs and bazaars; helped as church cleaner; and frequently provided transportation to various school sporting events. Mary Anne had a passion for arts and crafts. She was an extraordinary ceramic artist and enjoyed painting. For the Christmas holidays, she enjoyed making wreaths and often taught others how to make them as well as other crafts.
If you knew Mary Anne, you will remember her wonderful sense of humor, her willingness to be silly, her beautiful smile and wonderfully contagious laugh. You most certainly will remember the array of little sayings that she sprinkled into just about every conversation you had with her. If you were really lucky, you may have even had a chance to see the remarkable sight of Mary Anne and Andy on the dancefloor effortlessly Jitterbugging together.
Mary Anne is survived by her husband Andrew Pimley, five of her children; Mark (Kim) Pimley, Stephen (Monica) Pimley, Michael (Martha) Pimley, James (Maria) Pimley and Maureen (James) Flaherty as well as ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son, Thomas Pimley, parents, Victor and Mary Ellen Waller and brother, John Waller.
