Mary M. Armstrong (nee Widmaier), age 81, of Broomall, PA, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2023. Born in Millville, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret Widmaier (nee Graulich).
Mary was a graduate of Goldey-Beacom College and the University of Pennsylvania. School was important to her and she was extremely proud of her academic accomplishments. Mary held many jobs over the years and her work ethic was valued by all. Her last job before retirement was in the Imprinting industry where she made many lifelong friends.
Throughout retirement, she enjoyed countless vacations to the Jersey Shore, which always included a slice of Manco and Manco’s pizza and strolls on the Ocean City Boardwalk, many day trips to Lancaster where Mary enjoyed shopping and great food, lounging pool side at the Lansdowne Swim club and frequent meals with neighbors from Melrose Avenue at the Empire Diner.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, James Armstrong. She is survived by her loving son, John D. Lindsay, her brother, Robert Widmaier and his wife Nancy, her sister-in-law Paula A. Sharp and numerous friends whom she considered her family.
Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed coloring. She loved ice cream and would treat herself to a scoop daily…even if it wasn’t hers! She loved animals, enjoyed going to see musicals and would always root for any Philadelphia sports team.
Mary never had a green thumb but would always do her best to take care of plants in her garden and home. But of all the things Mary loved, her greatest love was her son, John. They had a relationship like no other and he made her most proud.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 6:00-7:30 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to her Funeral Service at 7:30 PM. Interment will be private.
