Mary Brigid Campbell (nee Bradley) passed away peacefully at home on October 16, 2024, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She was born in Draperstown, County Derry, Northern Ireland, the second of eleven children born to Peter and Eileen Bradley. Although she was an older sibling, her sister, Pauline, lovingly remarked Mary had the youngest heart of all her brothers and sisters.
As a young adult, Mary made the journey to America with her sister, Teresa, on the SS Corinthian to start a new life. After landing in New York at Ellis Island, she made her way to Philadelphia where she met the love of her life, James Alphonsus Campbell, of Roscommon, Ireland. They were married on October 1,1960 at Saint Alice Church in Upper Darby, PA. Together they raised five children and were blessed with 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Mary often shared stories of her childhood in the Irish countryside, and her love for her family and homeland were always apparent with every account and every smile. She made many journeys back across the pond with her husband and children to visit with and enjoy some “craic” with her siblings, Pauline, Martina, Kieran, and many other family and friends. She shared a special bond with her sister- in-law, Mary, that lasted throughout the years, even though they were an ocean apart.
Mary’s values were simple: God and family. She was resilient, kind, compassionate and welcoming. She had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was often asked to pray for those in need, which she did faithfully.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, James, and her oldest daughter, Eileen. She is survived by her children James (Jacque), Marie, Geraldine (Michael), Kathleen (Christopher), and son-in-law William (Eileen), her grandchildren Megan (Timothy), Ashley (Brian), Nicole (Thomas), Jessica (Nicholas), Colin, Rebecca (Jeffrey), Rachel (Clinton), Daniel, James, Katrina, and Liam, her great grandchildren Cole, Quinn, Connor, Grace, Tessa, and Elaina, and lastly grand puppies Nala, Jada and Nacho.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mary’s Viewing on Thursday, October 24 from 6:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m. and Friday, October 25 from 9:30 a.m. –10:30 a.m. at Donohue Funeral Home, 1627 West Chester Pike, West Chester, PA 19382. Following Friday’s Viewing, Mary’s Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Simon and Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, PA 19382. Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
