Mary Alice Boyd passed away peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2016 at her home in Shannondell, Audubon, PA surrounded by her family.
Mary Alice was born in Weston, WV in 1932, daughter of William T. and Lorena McLaughlin. She attended St Patrick High School in Weston and graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in Elementary Education and was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. After graduation, she worked as a school teacher in Palm Beach, FL, Berlin, Germany and Abington Township, PA. Her time in Berlin was at the height of the cold war, teaching 1st Grade to US Service member's children. After settling in Abington, she met her future husband, Melvin Boyd. They were married in 1960, started and raised a family in Berwyn, PA.
Besides her family, Mary Alice was extremely active in her children's school district, T-E, volunteering on many levels. She was also very involved in her church and community and devoted countless hours including raising money to rebuild St Monica Church and the Easttown Library, where both stand today.
Mary Alice will be remembered for the way she made everyone around her feel special and her unselfish, giving personality. She had boundless energy and many hobbies and activities including bridge, tennis, skiing, gardening and golf. She was a long time member of Overbrook Golf Club.
Mary Alice is survived by her husband of 55 years, Melvin, her 3 children Timothy (Sandra), Marybeth (Steve) and Peter (Kathleen), her 6 grandchildren, Marion, Matthew, Margaret, William, Andrew and Julia and her brother, Bob. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael, and her siblings, Michael, Roseanne and William T.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mary Alice's family on Monday evening, April 18, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 366 West Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA and Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 10:00 to 10:50 AM at St. Monica Church, 635 First Avenue, Berwyn, PA 19312 with her Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment St. Monica Cemetery.
