Mary J. DeGothseir

Mary J. DeGothseir (nee Lyons), 94, of Glenolden PA passed away on November 18, 2022 at St. Francis Country House in Darby, PA.

Born October 6, 1928 and raised in Philadelphia, PA, Mary previously resided in the Briarcliffe section of Glenolden for over 60 years. She was a longtime member of Saint Joseph Church in Collingdale, PA. Mary graduated from West Catholic High School for Girls in 1946. She went on to work for the Internal Revenue Service for many years. She then went on to become a homemaker raising her four children. Later on she reentered the workforce and was employed by the Environmental Agency. She held various other jobs throughout her years, however, she always saw her most important job as a devoted mother and wife. Mary always put her husband and children ahead of her own needs. Mary loved to sew, listen to music, read and do crossword puzzles. She also loved to travel. She traveled with her husband to many destinations, but her favorite was Ireland. She encouraged her family to visit there also to learn the history of their roots. Mary will be remembered for her kind heart and selflessness.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, William; children: William (Linda), Jeanne Schaab (George), Thomas and David: 9 Grandchildren; 4 Great Grandchildren; and sister, Patricia. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Beatrice Lyons, and siblings, Helen, Thomas and Martin.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life with Visitation from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM followed by her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass to be held on Saturday November 26, 2022 at St. Joseph Church 500 Woodlawn Ave. Collingdale, PA. Interment will be private.
