Mary S. Downie, a long-time resident of Downingtown, PA died suddenly on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at home.
Born in Chester, PA in 1966, Mary was the daughter of the late Samuel and Rosalie (Todd) Downie. She is predeceased by a brother, Richard.
She spent her youth in Chester, PA. She was a 1984 graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School and a 1990 graduate of West Chester University. Mary had previously worked as a devoted teacher at Saint Patrick's Elementary School in Kennett Square until 1994. This vocation combined her academic excellence and creativity with her desire to help others. Mary was employed by ECS Insurance underwriting company as an Executive Secretary. She felt blessed to have this position and to have met many wonderful people. Mary recently worked for Century 21 Norris-Valley Forge Real Estate in Phoenixville, PA.
Mary took pride in participating in a recipe club where she perfected the skill of making cheesecakes. She also had talent with gardening, shown by the flowers, vegetables and herbs that she grew and would delight in giving gifts to others which were beautifully and meticulously wrapped. She enjoyed ice skating, swimming, trips to Wildwood, N.J. and her dog, Kerby.
She is survived by her brothers, John of Downingtown and David of Florida and her nieces, Kelly Giordano, Tami Motes and Tara King.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 9:30-10:30 Monday, December 14, 2015 at SS. Simon and Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester PA, followed by her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
