Mary M. Elia

Mary M. Elia, age 62, fondly known as “Mare-Mare” to those closest to her, sadly passed away on August 17, 2024.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Edward R. and Mary (née Taggart) Elia.

Mary was a graduate of St. Katherine Day School in Wynnewood, PA and found great joy in participating in activities at Welcome House in Upper Darby and the Wayne Senior Center, embracing every opportunity to connect with others. 

She was known for her contagious laugh and gentle smile, which brightened the lives of all who knew her. An avid lover of music, Mary had a special fondness for Doo-Wop tunes. Her cinematic tastes leaned towards heartwarming classics such as "Going My Way" and "The Bells of St. Mary’s," while her television preferences included timeless shows like "Little House on the Prairie" and "M*A*S*H." 

Mary cherished spending time with her family, creating an abundance of cherished memories, and she took great delight in having her photo taken. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Mary is survived by her loving brothers, Richard Elia, Michael Elia, and Harold “Bo” Elia, as well as her caring nieces and nephews, Michael, Teresa, Diane, Rita, Lisa, Kathleen, Joseph, Heather, Richard, Anthony, and Christina, and her many loving grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A Visitation to honor Mary will take place on Monday, August 26, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 AM at St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Road, Broomall, PA 19008, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM, celebrating her life. Interment will take place at St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.

 In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s memory would be appreciated to St. Katherine Day School, 930 Bowman Avenue, Wynnewood, PA 19096.
