Mary Facenda

November 9, 1945 — February 10, 2024

Newtown Square, Pa.

Mary Facenda, age 78, of Newtown Square, PA, passed away on February 10, 2024.

A long-time resident of Havertown, PA, Mary was born on November 9, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA, and was the daughter of the late James and June (née Mangesian) Facenda.

Mary, along with her family, owned two flower shops in Havertown dating back to the early 1970’s. She enjoyed working with flowers, serving her customers, and making life-long friends in her community. Her lifelong passion for floral design was evident in her home where she was always finding new ways to display her creations.

Mary was a member of St. Anastasia Parish, in Newtown Square. Her strong spiritual beliefs supported her beloved devotion to St. Padre Pio. She lived by his example of charity and love for all people. Mary would give you the “shirt off her back.”

Before her recent retirement, Mary served the Marple Newtown School District as a Transportation Aide supporting children with multiple disabilities. Mary made a positive impact on her students every day, with her supportive, genuine, and often humorous demeanor. She was a source of love, encouragement, and friendship for the students as well as for her colleagues.

Mary’s most treasured times were moments spent with her family, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mary was often the life of family events, celebrations, and regular gatherings – offering much positive energy and fun. She made everyone feel uplifted by her unique sense of humor and candor that was balanced by her genuine interest and love. Her family, especially her grandchildren, viewed her as a “trusted friend” who encouraged them with praise and support on their journey through life. Family was immensely important to Mary.

Mary was the loving mother of June Eicholz (Mark) and Gary Amos (Christa); the devoted grandmother of Kristina (Brent), Elizabeth (Steve), Austen, (Tayler), Connor (Christina), Ray, Sophia, and Fiona, as well as the caring great-grandmother of Corrine, Colin, Caiden, and Mila. Mary is also survived by her brother, James Facenda, and her sister, Victoria Sweeney (James), along with her many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers, Lewis Facenda (Carolyn) and David Facenda (Theresa).
