Mary Marlowe

July 23, 1921 — September 21, 2016

Mary Jane Marlowe (neé Ortolan), 95, of West Chester, passed away on September 21, 2016.



Born in 1921 in East Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Mario and Emma (nee Cella) Ortolan.



Mary Jane enlisted in the United States Army in 1942. She served in the Signal Corps in North Africa, Italy, France and England. While serving in North Africa, she met her future husband James J. Marlowe, Sr, whom she married on February 15, 1947 after her honorable discharge in 1945, holding the rank of Sergeant.

Mrs. Marlowe worked for Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation in an administrative position until her retirement.



She was the beloved wife of the late James J. Marlowe, Sr; the loving mother of James J. Marlowe, Jr. (fiancé Florence D. Graham) and Terrence J. Marlowe (Robin); loving grandmother to Marisa Marlowe, Rachel Marlowe and Nathaniel Marlowe; the dear sister of Gloria Drongoski; beloved aunt of Susan Winn (James) and Susan's daughter Sarah Delrusso, Cynthia Strouse (Robert) and son Benjamin, and of Joseph Marlowe, Jr. (Karen), Catherine Marlowe, Sharon Moldof (David), Christopher Marlowe, and Margaret Mary Lewis (Gary). She was the former mother-in law of Maria Marlowe, a very special part of the family.



To reflect her love of animals, in lieu of flowers, Mary Jane would be honored to have memorial contributions to Charm City Animal Rescue, 12514 Naves Cross Road, Cumberland, MD 21502, Attn: Michelle Ingrodi.



A memorial service and interment will be held 12 noon Saturday, October 1, 2016 at St. Agnes Cemetery, 1050 Pottstown Pike, West Chester, PA 19380.
