Mary Louise Miller (nee McCloskey), 82 of Gradyville, PA passed away on August 18, 2016.
Born in Chester, Pa, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late William A. and Margaret (Linnington) McCloskey.
She was predeceased in 2009 by her beloved husband, Elmer E. "Bus" Miller, Jr.
Mary Lou was the loving mother of Elmer E. "Chip" III (Meg), Joanne Hartley (Jeff) and the late Linda L. Miller; loving grandmother of Colin Miller, Matt Hartley and granddaughter along with three great-grandchildren; sister of Ann Patezold, the late Margaret "Peggy" DeForrest, the late Kathleen Noveretta and the late Frances Hartshorn-White. In addition, Mary Lou or "Aunt Lou" is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She attended Lincoln Elementary in Chester, PA and moved with her family to Sea Isle, NJ. She was a graduate of Wildwood Catholic High School, and returned to Delaware County to attended nursing school at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital in Darby, PA and has been an active member of the Alumni Association of the Class of 1955 ever since.
Mary Lou met and married the love of her life, Elmer E. "Bus" Miller, Jr. and upon moving to Gradyville, she became actively involved with the community volunteering with the Edgmont Township Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary, Mother's Club of St. Francis de Sales and the Delaware County Press Club. She was a founder and charter member of the Okehocking Heritage Society dedicated to preserving the history of Edgmont Township and surrounding areas.
From her early years Mary Lou loved to sing and entertain. She sang with a number of big bands and combos in Atlantic City, Sunnybrook Ball Room and various venues in and around the Philadelphia area. She served as Mistress of Ceremonies and commentator for fashion shows along with numerous local charities and organizations. Mary Lou would often say "that she would sing at the drop of a hat and that she dropped hers a lot !" Her parties are legendary, from intimate dinners to large gatherings at home or the family pool and cabin, she made sure every function was a memory to cherish.
Fifty years ago, she and "Bus" opened the Den of Antiquity and Christmas Shop in Gradyville, an antique, collectable and memorabilia shop that still operates today. Mary Lou was highly respected in the antique and appraisal business in the Delaware Valley area providing her knowledge of collectables and antiques to many organizations as a fund raising opportunity.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 9:30-10:30 AM Saturday, August 27, 2016, at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct., West Chester, PA 19382, followed by her Memorial Mass 10:30 AM. Interment Private.
