Mary Jean McCarthy

Mary Jean McCarthy, 92, of Wayne, PA, formerly of Havertown, PA, passed away June 6, 2024.

Born September 20, 1931 in New Philadelphia, PA, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary (nee Palko) Mack.

Mary Jean was a graduate of Holy Family Elementary School, Pottsville Catholic High School, and Misericordia Nursing School. She worked for 10 years in the ER at Misericordia Hospital then stayed home and raised her children, returning to Haverford Rehab nineteen years later, until her retirement.

She loved to travel, including to Ireland, Hawaii, Mexico, and many trips to Walt Disney World.  

Mary Jean was the beloved wife of the late Robert J. McCarthy; loving mother of Mary Clement (Mike), Robert J. McCarthy, Jr. (Lee), Mike McCarthy (Sheila) and Patti Atkins (Dylan); adoring grandmom of 10; proud great-grandmom of 4 with 1 more on the way; and dear sister of Elizabeth Mack. She was predeceased by her siblings: James, Edward, and Joseph.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing on Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 9:50 AM at St Pius X Church 220 Lawrence Rd, Broomall, PA 19008, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
