Mary Sophie McManus (nee Stanczak), age 72, of Glenolden, PA died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on January 30th at home. Born on January 16th, 1946 and raised in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, Mary attended St. Mary of the Assumption Grade School and J.W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School. At a very young age, Mary met the love of her life, Larry McManus - also a Manayunk boy. Mary and Larry grew to love another on these streets, surrounded by a collection of life-long friends and cousins. It was their "crew" as they called it. At the ages of 18 & 21, Mary and Larry married on Halloween Night, 1964. Upon moving to the Briarcliffe section of Glenolden, Mary accepted the only job she ever wanted and did it as well as any woman who has ever lived - she became a mother. In 1966, the first of Mary's four children, Larry Jr. (Roseanne) was born and over the next 18 years, Patrick (Colleen), Danny (Joelle) and Kati (John) were born. During this time, Mary had numerous jobs (sales, cook) and titles but NONE compared to her most common title and greatest accomplishment - "Mom". As "mom", Mary was a chauffer, a cook, the maid and especially the boss. She made the best homemade Iced Tea and fantastic "dippy-eggs". She loved to host Saturday morning "donuts with Mom-Mom Mare and Pop-Pop Lar" and loved to sit out front on warm summer nights with the girls. She also was the founder of the greatest Thanksgiving Day Family Dinner in America. Strongly influenced by her upbringing and beloved Aunt Anna - "Nanny" - Mary and Larry McManus created the greatest home and childhood that any four children could hope for. Mary was a diehard shopper and spoiler. She loved to cook and entertain and was one of the greats of all time at both! She loved Cape May, New Jersey, Lancaster, Pennsylvania, QVC and watching Judge Judy. Mary's favorite things, however, involved anything and everything with her family, especially her daughter Kati and all of her seven grandchildren, Danny, Caroline, Anna, Maeve, Nora, Mary and Jack. She will be remembered for the Love, the Wisdom, the Faith, the Selflessness and the Loyalty that she shared with all. Mary is predeceased by her husband Lawrence McManus, her parents Catherine (Piller) and William Stanczak, as well as Anna (Piller) and Frank Rauscher, who selflessly raised Mary from a young age. She is survived by her aforementioned family, her sisters Kay (Frank), Diane (Steve) and brothers Frank (Trudy) and Bob (Donna). Mary and her family are especially appreciative of their legion of supportive friends and family; especially her "soul-mate" Carol Hennelly and her husband Frank. Aunt Carol and Uncle Frank Hennelly are the most loyal, devoted and selfless friends and family that Mary, Larry and the McManus family could have ever hoped for. Carol and Frank are the ultimate role models of devotion and friendship - mom would not have been mom without them. We are so thankful to have them. All are invited to visit from 9:00-10:45 on Saturday Morning, February 3rd at Our Lady of Fatima Church on South Avenue in Secane, PA, followed by funeral mass. Internment, Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory can be made to "Patrick's Pals".
