Mary Jo Steffes

Mary Jo Steffes, 66, of Downingtown, PA, passed away October 10, 2024.

Born December 27, 1957, she was a daughter of John and Govina (nee Sette) Scheffner. She was the beloved wife of Paul D. Steffes; loving mother of Michael Steffes (Colleen), Ryan Steffes, and David Steffes; adoring grandmother of Charles and Theodore Steffes; and dear sister of Patricia Laskowski (Robert). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Scheffner. 

Mary Jo was raised Catholic and graduated from Villa Maria Academy. She went on to attend Gannon University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Mary Jo began her professional career as a traveling nurse immediately following her graduation, and then remained at Central Blood Bank in Pittsburgh, PA, until she met her husband, Paul. Mary Jo then relocated to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and then to Penn Medicine\Chester County Hospital in West Chester, PA. 

Mary Jo devoted her life to caring for her family, friends, and patients. Mary Jo enjoyed creating a wonderful, festive, and inviting home for all on holidays and occasions of celebration. She was the team nurse for, and adamant supporter of, the many sports teams and activities that her sons were part of. She established numerous neighborhood traditions such as cookie night and supper club. Mary Jo also enjoyed her girls’ weekends and trips to the beach and lake house. Her happy place was on the water.

Relatives are invited to her Viewing, 9:30 AM, and close friends are welcome to join at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 1325 Boot Rd, West Chester, PA 19380, followed by her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment is private.
