Mary Josephine (Gray) Vignola, 95, of West Chester, PA, passed away peacefully June 29, 2022 with her two daughters by her side.
Born June 25, 1927 in Colwyn, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Mary (nee Cashion) Gray, lovingly known as Molly and Micky.
She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Vignola; loving mother of Jill Marie Shaddock (Bill)) and Susan Mary Dunphy (Mark); absolutely adoring “Grandmom” to Molly, Kevin and, Christopher Shaddock, Julie, Brendan, Kieran and Patrick Dunphy; and dear sister of Michael Gray (Sheila). She was predeceased by her siblings: Teresa Beauchamp, Agnes Cummings, Helena Watkinson, and Anne Lafferty. She was proud to be a Godmother of 7 and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mary also kept in touch with many cousins.
Growing up in Norwood, PA, Mary was a graduate of St. Gabriel’s Grade School and Notre Dame, Moylan. After that, she went to work at Bell Telephone for 16 years, where she met many lifelong friends. She married her husband William, whom she met on the beach in Wildwood NJ. They started their married life in Aston and had 2 daughters, prior to moving to East Goshen in 1977. Mary returned to the workforce spending 17 years at the Franklin Mint. She had many fond memories of her time at “The Mint”.
Mary enjoyed shopping (often day long events), attending and hosting parties and getting together with “The Gang”, a group of friends that originated in grade school and grew and grew, becoming like family. You could often find her talking on the phone. She had many stories of family and friends growing up. Her quick wit and sense of humor were second to none and will certainly keep us smiling and laughing for years.
Mary loved the shore, and vacationing in Naples, FL. She was particularly proud of her Irish descent and being first generation American. Mary loved all holidays and celebrated to the hilt, the 4th of July and Christmas being her favorites. Mary enjoyed any time spent with her family, especially her 7 grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Each grandchild held a special and unique place in her heart.
It can’t go without mentioning that as Mary became less independent over the past several years, her daughter Jill became primary caregiver. Jill tirelessly cared for her, making sure that her final years were filled with fun, family and lots of laughs. We are eternally grateful!
