Mary Ellen White (nee Growney), 72, of Glen Mills, PA and formerly of Newport, DE passed away on February 27, 2014 at Life Care Hospital in West Chester, PA.
Born in Dover, NJ, Mary Ellen was the daughter of the late Margaret P. (Barnes) and Richard V. Growney.
In the early 1950's, Mary Ellen contracted Polio which left her with some paralysis. After months of recovery, she went on to graduate from Padua Academy in Wilmington, DE and the University of Delaware in 1964.
She became a teacher at St. Matthew's Catholic School in Newport, DE for 16 years. After her retirement from teaching, Mary Ellen worked for Sara Picone Electrolysis in Wilmington, DE.
Mary Ellen enjoyed being with her family and friends, going to concerts, plays, Longwood Gardens and sharing a good meal. She was a Phillies fan and had just enjoyed watching the Winter Olympic Games.
Mary Ellen was the loving sister of Richard V. Growney and his wife, Jane of Landenberg, PA; special aunt of Andrew Growney and great-niece, Kaylee. She will also be greatly missed by her four-legged companion, Coco and by many lifelong friends she had acquired over the years. Their love and friendship brought her great joy.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Riddle Memorial Hospital ICU and Life Care Hospital of West Chester, PA for her care and treatment in her final weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Celebration of Life 10:00 AM Friday, March 14, 2014 at the Chapel at Maris Grove, 100 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
