Downingtown, Pa

Mercedes Murgueytio, a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant at Broomall Presbyterian Nursing Home, passed away on March 19, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born in Ibarra, Ecuador, she was the daughter of the late Carlos and Zoila (nee Pabón) Alarcón, and lived a life characterized by kindness, patience, warmth, and with a deep devotion to her Catholic faith.

Throughout her life, Mercedes demonstrated a selfless spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her generous and loving nature made a lasting impression on both her colleagues and the residents she cared for at the nursing home.

Mercedes was a devoted Roman Catholic who found immense joy and blessings in her faith. The halls of Holy Innocents Church in Philadelphia, St. Pius X Church in Broomall, and St. Joseph Church in Downingtown, echoed with her prayers and passion for the Virgin Mary, whom she held dearly in her heart. Her unwavering devotion was matched only by her ceaseless dedication to her family and friends.

At the center of her world was her husband, Ramiro, who was the love of her life. Together, they created a warm and loving family environment. Mercedes’ happiest moments were as hostess to family gatherings in her home, listening to all the familiar voices carousing and laughing. Mercedes cherished her family photographs and often drew inspiration from her parents, her brother Julio, and her brother-in-law Raúl.

A woman of many talents, Mercedes enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and knitting. She found joy surrounded by family and had a passion for reading. Her creative spirit flourished in her love for making hand crafted gifts. A true Christian, she treated all living things, pets, critters, or plants, with the same respect and care she bestowed upon her loved ones.

Mercedes was the beloved wife of Ramiro Murgueytio; the loving mother of Patrick Murgueytio (Lisa), Nancy Lanza, Rodney Murgueytio (Regina); the caring and devoted grandmother of Genevieve Rinaldi (Anthony), Guillermo Murgueytio, Marta Mercedes Murgueytio, Gabriela Lanza, Alessandra Mercedes Lanza, and Lucia Lanza. She is also survived by her sisters, Inés Andrade (Eduardo), Carlota Miranda (Nelson), Matilde Ayala (Eduardo), Judith Alarcón, and brother, Julio Alarcón (Olga).
