Michael Thomas “Mike” Antell, Jr., born July 19, 1989, in Philadelphia, PA, was the beloved son of Michael Thomas Antell Sr. and Mary Ellen Antell (nee Noble). In the early morning hours of December 16, Mike was driving home from work at NFL Films when he was tragically killed in a car accident.
Mike was universally loved by all who were lucky enough to know him. He was passionate about being and doing the best that he could in everything he did in life. The greatest of these was the intensity with which he adored and cared for his family. He had a great love and admiration for his parents and strove to emulate the passion and devotion with which they surrounded him.
Mike lived his life in the embrace of his parents and when he met Becca and Caroline, they were welcomed into that loving embrace joyfully. Becca, Mike, and Caroline quickly formed their own little family together and they are soon to be joined by a baby boy, Samuel. Mike was over the moon with joy and held Sammy closely in his heart.
As a partner to Becca, Mike constantly strove to find ways to show his love for her - bringing her breakfast in bed, leaving love notes between the pages of her books, on her water bottle and laptop. As for his most treasured daughter Caroline, he was the greatest father you could ever wish to find or even dream of. They shared countless special moments together - playing soccer, reading, practicing basketball, meditating, learning (a favorite for both), and always lots of silliness, laughter, and love. The special connection between them was so strong that it will live on forever in Caroline’s heart.
Mike was also a hardworking man for others - always putting everyone before himself. It is impossible to adequately describe him but some important roles of Mike’s include: devoted father, husband and son, proud Temple graduate, hardworking NFL producer, assistant soccer coach, lover of knowledge, gifted writer and storyteller, avid Philadelphia sports fan (especially Eagles), family man, and greatest friend.
Most of all, Mike was a gracious man - compassionate, kind, and selfless. His incredible mind was constantly working and as a writer he was inclined to record his thoughts in words. After his passing, thousands of notes were found in his phone. Most of them words of gratitude for the people and love in his life. But also, love letters - to Becca, to Caroline, to his parents; philosophical tangents, thoughts on music and literature, and even coaching tips for his darling Caroline. In these notes, Mike has managed to leave thousands of gifts for us to cherish for these years we must now spend without his warm, vibrant, loving physical presence.
Please pray that we who are so hollowed by his loss will feel the strength of the heavenly embrace that Mike is surely holding us all in.
Mike was the beloved husband of Rebecca Antell and loving father of Caroline and Samuel Michael. He will forever cherished by his in-laws, Donato and Colleen Sciole, his godson, Lucas Rapp and countless family members and friends.
