Michael Robert "Mike" Koslap passed away unexpectedly on March 31st from cardiac arrest at age 67. Mike battled Parkinson's Disease for over 18 years. He participated in numerous research programs with Penn to help future PD patients. He did struggle with symptoms of dementia the last couple of years.
Mike was born in Jeddo, PA to the late Michael Koslap and Margaret (Gornal) Koslap and was very proud to be from a coal-mining town and family. Baseball was a very important part of his youth. He played on all-star teams, in high school at MMI prep, and at King's college. As he loved to tell his physical therapists, he knew how to fall, because he had been a shortstop.
Mike worked for PPL Electric Utilities in Allentown for 34 years before retiring in 2012 due to his PD. He loved his jobs as Senior Residential Consultant and National Accounts Manager. He made lifelong friends with his co-workers and went to monthly breakfasts with them and many Penn State football games.
He was most proud of his sons, Mike and Zach, and his daughters-in-law, Kristin and Elena. He loved playing foosball, catch, and board games with his cherished grandson, Owen.
Mike and his wife of 44 years, Linda (Kirkpatrick), loved going to Cape May, Phillies games, and watching movies, Penn State football games, and Philly sports on TV.
Mike lived with Linda in Schnecksville, PA for 32 years and moved to Drexel Hill, PA in 2015 to be closer to his kids, their families, and his doctors at Penn. He really enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and getting to know his neighbors, especially if they had dogs or cool cars. Even though he was a dog person, he doted on his cats, especially Cher.
Mike is survived by his wife, his sons, his grandson, his brother Robert, sister-in-law Carol, niece Melissa, and nephew Bob.
