Michael “Mike” J. Scanlon, 79, of Glen Mills and formerly of Newtown Square and Springfield, PA passed away on August 26, 2021.
Born in 1942 in Buffalo NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Arlene (Dunford) Scanlon. He was raised in South Buffalo and graduated from Bishop Timon High School in 1960.
Mike was the beloved husband for 49 years of Frances M. (née Abbonizio) Scanlon; loving father of Michael (Barbara) and Ryan (Kimberly); proud grandfather of Ian, Kellen, Kerrigan and Shane; dear brother of Tim Scanlon (Sharon). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mike served proudly in the US Navy and worked as a transportation Manager for Conrail Railroad for 31 years and, after his retirement, part time for the Post Office.
He was a 4th Degree Knight and member of the Knights of Columbus Mater Dei Council 4129, Newtown Square, member of Marple-Newtown Jaycees, where he served as Treasurer. He was also a member of BRAC Brotherhood Airline & Steamship Clerks and APWU American Postal Workers Union.
He was a huge sports fan, avid Buffalo Bills Football Fan and also liked Hockey and Baseball, following the Sabres and Bisons. He enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball teams.
Mike especially loved traveling with his wife. He was a fun-loving, outgoing, very social person who will be missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 10:30-11:30 AM Saturday, September 4, 2021 at SS Simon & Jude Church, 8 Cavanaugh Ct., West Chester, PA followed by his Funeral Mass 11:30 AM. Interment Private.
