High on a Mountain Top
by Donald L. Neblock (1930-2016)
High upon a mountain top
One can view an awful lot
You look down and suddenly found
Views never seen, on flat level ground
The hills and valleys and beautiful streams
As usually seen, in our loveliest dreams
White puffy clouds, much closer to Earth
Scenes like these, in gold they're worth
Along the ridge, one can walk
If so inclined, with God can talk
You are free, as free as a bird
From far away, your echo's heard
If you whistle, talk, yell, clap your hands
They return - to where you stand
Often one finds a path or two
Holding new adventure for only you
Behold, layers and layers, of various rock
All produced from times forgot
Back when Earth had its beginning
These glorious sights, your memory's winning
For at this moment, time stands still
Forget this moment? No - you never will
Sure, a dreamer, I may certainly be
For sights like these, I will never see
Imagination's now working overtime
For all I've written in these lines that rhyme
I may have witnessed, once - from a plane
Did I take mental pictures, frame by frame
All this beauty from a single flight
Illuminated by dawn's first golden light
Was this real, or perhaps a dream
Of a lovely view, I've never really seen
One thing for sure, it all fits in
My path of life, which I would do again
One can take a trip, or hike for free
As I hope you did, just now with me
Imagination, never let it stop
Live through valleys, reach every mountain top
One thing for sure, hope you enjoyed with me
What you dream, is so easy to see
And all you dream, hard as it may seem
On Memory Lane, you reach every dream
