Mr. John Byrne, Sr.

February 26, 1924 — November 25, 2016

John R. Byrne Sr. "Jack", 92, of Upper Darby, PA, passed away on November 25, 2016.



Born in Bristol, PA, he was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Byrne (nee McMonagle).



Jack served in the Army during WWII and also served in the Merchant Marines. He worked as a Diesel Mechanic before retiring.



Jack was the beloved husband of the late Isabell C. Byrne (nee Nugent) and the loving father of Jack R. Byrne Jr. (Ann Marie), Edward Byrne (Ella Mae), Isabell C. Leonard (John), Patrick Byrne and his adopted son Kevin Gorman. He was the dear brother of Nancy Lavin; loving grandfather of Melissa Marrero (nee Byrne), Richard J. Byrne, Michael P. Byrne, Colleen Knopka (Tom) (nee Byrne), John Leonard (Jacqueline), and Brian Leonard; and loving great-grandfather of Aaron Marrero, Luca Marrero, Carlo Marrero, Dylan Byrne, Allison Knopka, Fiona Martyn, and Riley Knopka. Jack was also survived by many nieces and nephews.



He was predeceased by his grandson, Steve Byrne (Danielle) and his siblings James Byrne, Joseph Byrne, William Byrne, Edwin Byrne, Margaret Vantrieste, and Beatty Quigley.



Relatives and friends are invited to his Visitation 8:30 AM-10:00 AM Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, 610-449-0300 followed by his Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at St. Laurence Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082. Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
