Mr. John Portner

Portner John C. "Jack" Portner , age 87, of Swarthmore, PA , peacefully lost his battle with cancer on May 20, 2012 at Taylor Hospice. Beloved husband of 56 years to Lucy Portner (nee Taddeo). Loving father of Louretta, Lorraine, Kathleen Scandle, Deborah, and Jacqueline Reilly. Cherished grandfather of 8 and great-grandfather of 5.He was born in 1925 to Rudolph and Mary(nee McNamara) Portner in Girardville,PA John was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp for the 91st Bomb Group. He flew 31 missions and received several commendations, including the Purple Heart. After the war John worked for the Federal Government as a contractor. Relatives and friends are invited to his Life Celebration from 10 to 10:30 AM in Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, 950 Michigan Ave, Swarthmore,PA 19081. Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 AM.
