Mrs. Elizabeth McFarlane
June 17, 1921 — February 6, 2016
Elizabeth L. "Betty" "Aunt Betty" (nee Smeltzer), age 94, of Bryn Mawr, PA, formerly of Upper Darby, PA passed away on February 6, 2016.
Beloved wife of the late James McFarlane, Jr., loving mother of James C. McFarlane (Maria), cherished grandmother of Sarah Lauren and James Edward McFarlane. Beloved aunt of the late Shirley Robinson. Also survived by her niece Janet Marshall and her grandnieces Lauren (husband Adam), Charlotte and Paige and great nephew Patrick. Pre-deceased by her brother Charles V. Smeltzer.
Betty first lived in Turnersville, NJ, then moved to Upper Darby. She lived on Chatham Road and Kingston Road. After marriage, she lived on Hampden Road from 1950 to 1998. She worked as a bookkeeper/administrator for the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia, Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Drexel University Evening College, University Equities (Bala Cynwyd), and Polites Florist. Since 1998, Betty resided at Radnor House in Rosemont, where she made many friends and lived a full and active social life.
Having given up flying as a mode of travel after a particularly turbulent flight to Miami in the 1950s, Betty traveled by automobile and train until 2013, when she rejoined the jet set and loved it. She made three trips to Florida (Orlando and Marco Island), including EPCOT, and a road trip to Key West.
Relatives, friends and her Radnor House family are invited to her viewing, Wednesday 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, 610-449-0300. Interment. Glenwood Cemetery.
