Myrtle J. Foster

July 10, 1931 — March 18, 2025

Broomall, PA

Myrtle J. Foster, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, at the age of 93.

Born in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late William and Myrtle Maddie (nee Cornog) Loveless.

Myrtle was employed at the Dowden Nursing home in Newtown Square for 25 years and worked as the supervisor of the laundry. She enjoyed interacting with all of the residents there and as she went about her day she would often whistle while she worked. Her co-workers could easily find her because they would just have to listen for the whistle. Her gentle spirit and compassionate nature significantly impacted the lives of those around her. She always had a kind word to share. She retired in 1997 when her grandson Jimmy was born. He was the light of her life and they shared a special bond up until her death. When he was little boy, she would sit and play with matchbox cars and trains for hours to entertain him. There were also games of gin rummy where the winner always got a quarter. She was a friend to many, known for her ability to make connections effortlessly. Her kind-hearted and nurturing personality allowed her to create lasting bonds with everyone she encountered. Those who had the privilege of knowing her will remember her as a gentle soul who brought joy and warmth to every room she entered.

Myrtle met her husband Bob while working as an usherette in a movie theater. She often told the story of how an actor had dressed up like Frankenstein the monster for a movie screening and he looked so real she fainted in his presence. After eight years of marriage, they were blessed with twins in 1963. She often told the story of how she didn’t know she was having twins until a month before they were due. They quickly had to move from their one bed apartment into a home in Broomall where she spent most of her life.

Myrtle filled her life with passions that defined her joyful spirit. She had a zest for life, which shone through her love for shopping, her fondness for jewelry, and her enjoyable trips to the casino. Travel was also one of her passions. She loved to go on cruises with her good friend and neighbor Shirley Murphy and her husband Bob. Myrtle relished exploring new places and creating unforgettable memories.

Myrtle was the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Foster, the loving mother of Linda A. Clark (James) and Shirley J. Wells (Michael); and the devoted grandmother of Jimmy Clark and fiancé (Molly).
