Nancy Moyer Dodge, 94, of Broomall, PA, passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 4th, 2020. She was the daughter of the late John and Eva (nee Roberts) Moyer.
She was an overachiever with ambition to persistently grow and learn. Her passion was teaching and learning, whether it was in a classroom or at home. She was a selfless protector with a beautiful heart and infectious smile that would brighten your day. Even in her final days, she continued to write a memoir of her life’s journey.
Nancy was born in Trenton, Mississippi and received her bachelor’s degree in Home Economics from Mississippi State College for Women. She served our country as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was transferred to Philadelphia where she married her husband Paul and raised their three children. Nancy was a special education teacher for the Philadelphia School District and obtained her master’s degree from Temple University while working and taking evening classes. She was an active member of the Cedar Park Community while living in University City, Philadelphia.
After retiring from teaching, Nancy started her own business baking cookies for local businesses. She was recognized by Philadelphia Magazine in 1981 for winning “Best of Philly” for her delicious cookies. She continued her passion to educate and help others with her work in genealogy, where she became a published genealogist. She volunteered her time at the Surrey Services for Seniors in Broomall and was a member of their book club; she was an avid reader. She was also a member of the General Smedley D. Butler Marine Corps Detachment and the League Auxiliary. Her other hobbies included gardening, bird watching, reading, writing, needle work, puzzles and telling stories to her great-grandchildren.
Nancy was the beloved wife of the late Paul H. Dodge; the loving mother of Harriott Dodge, Janet DeSantis (Gregory) and the late Paul Dodge, Jr.; the cherished grandmother of Melissa Alexander, Leah Cox, Paul Dodge III, Mattie Dodge and Ava Dodge; and the great-grandmother of Samuel Alexander, Tessa Alexander, Christopher Cox and Lily Cox. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Allison Dodge and is predeceased by her siblings.
