Nancy H. Greenwood, of Wayne, PA, died peacefully in her sleep at home on April 21 at the age of 81. She is predeceased by her brother, Charles Henderson, of Atlanta, GA; and Robert F. Greenwood, her husband of 55 years. She is survived by their three children, Tom, Dan, and Julie and their respective spouses, Svenja, Lisa, and Kieran Coleman; and seven grandchildren.
Nancy was born in 1941 to Helen and Charles Henderson in Bethel Park, PA. After graduating from Bethel Park High School in 1959, she attended Bucknell University, where she earned a BA in French and Political Science. A love of language, children, and learning next led her to become a schoolteacher and, later, to pursue graduate coursework.
In 1967, Nancy met Robert F. Greenwood (1939–2022) and they were married that summer. They settled in Wayne, where they raised their three children, and spent many memorable summers in Avalon, NJ. A lifelong gardener and lover of plants and flowers, she volunteered over many years with the Philadelphia Flower Show, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, the Jenkins Arboretum, and others. Nancy will be remembered for her extraordinary energy, sharp mind, love of family and friends, and passion for life.
A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday, May 25 at 10:30 a.m. St. Norbert Parish, in Paoli. Her family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society at https://phsonline.org/support-phs/target-your-impact/donate
