Oliver McElhone

Oliver McElhone, age 61, of Havertown, PA, passed away on September 13, 2017. Born in Bellaghy, County Derry, Ireland, Oliver grew up in a musical setting. His father, James, played and taught both the tin whistle and accordion.
Oliver started his musical career playing the fiddle with local groups throughout Derry. At eighteen, Oliver went to Tenerife in the Canary Islands where he spent the next few years playing in Paddy's Irish Pub. After leaving Tenerife, Oliver came to America where his brother, Barney, was playing with the popular Irish group, The Bards.
Oliver had played coast to coast in many cities including St. Louis, Seattle, Chicago, Savannah, Atlanta, Boston and Philadelphia. He served as the general manager of the Blarney Stone Pub and Restaurant in St. Louis from 1986-1990.
Oliver opened for Ralph Mactell, Christy Moore, Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers. He became a favorite at Brittingham's, Kildare's and many other Irish Pubs.
Oliver was predeceased by his loving son, Robert "Emmett" McElhone, his parents James and Margaret (nee McGoldrick) McElhone and his brothers Seamus, Hugh and Michael McElhone. His in-laws Robert and Mary Moran He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen McElhone (nee Moran), his loving children Oliver P. McElhone, James R. (Nicci) McElhone, Eamon J. McElhone, Martin F. McElhone, John P. McElhone, Dennis P. McElhone and Mary B. McElhone, his grandchildren Isabelle and Owen and his siblings Sr. Eileen McElhone, Rosemary (Danny) Agnew, Anne McPeake, Rita McElhone and Martin "Barney" McElhone.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
