Paolo Collia, an entrepreneur and former resident of the Wildwood, NJ community, passed away on March 17, 2025, at the age of 77 at a nursing home in Bryn Mawr, PA. Born in Vibo Valentia, Italy, he was the son of the late Giuseppe and Serafina (née LaBella) Collia.
Before coming to America, Paolo was a tailor of fine men’s suits. After arriving in 1965, some of Paolo’s first endeavors in the United States included Paolo's love for music and culture, as was reflected in his dedication to bringing singers from Italy to perform, creating an atmosphere filled with laughter, song, dance, and the warmth of camaraderie. Continuing with this appreciation, Paolo imported authentic Italian goods and sold Italian pastries and gelato, bringing the homeland to Philadelphia. Paolo was later known for his outstanding work in various restaurants, notably at Garfield’s Giardino Ristorante, which he managed for 20 years, and for his prized Cafè Italia, both in Wildwood, NJ.
Paolo's strong Catholic faith was a cornerstone of his life, instilling in him values of love, generosity, and kindness that he readily shared with family, friends, and anyone fortunate enough to cross his path. Outgoing and always ready to share a story or a smile, he created deep connections with those around him. He had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcomed and cherished, often over a cup of his espresso, which he enjoyed dearly.
Paolo was the loving father of Sabrina Collia and Giuseppe Collia; the proud and caring grandfather of Juliana Aiken, Brendan Aiken, and Violet Aiken; the beloved brother of Gina LaBella (Dominick), Maria Campo (Lucio), and Pina O’Neill (Charlie). Paolo is also survived by nieces and nephews Denise LaBella, Donna LaBella, Domenick LaBella, Stephanie O’Neill Dubeck, Amanda O’Neill, Joseph Campo, Cristina Amato, and Salvatore Campo.
Family and friends are invited to honor Paolo’s life at his Services beginning with his Viewing on Monday, March 24, 2025, 9:30 – 10:30 AM at St. Anastasia Church, 3301 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073, followed by his Funeral Mass, 10:30 AM. Interment will be held privately.
