Pasquale A. "Pat" Dougherty, age 68, of Springfield, PA, formerly of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away on January 12, 2015. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Josephine Dougherty (nee Iacobucci). He was a 1964 graduate of St. Thomas More High School, received his Bachelor's degree in 1968 from Villanova University and his Master's degree in 1975.
Pat was employed as a Civil Engineer. He was the former manager of the Harrisburg Office of Urban Engineers. He retired from Arora & Associates of Harrisburg. He served on the Engineers Week Council for Central PA. He was a member of ASHE Harrisburg Section, former President of Delaware Valley Section and former National President.
Pat is survived by his wife Elizabeth Dougherty (nee King), his children William, Marijo and Matthew Dougherty, his grandchild Eli Finn Dougherty, his siblings Thomas Dougherty (Sunny) and Josephine Randa (Albert) and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Bowley, Sr. Germaine, S.C.C., Mary Miller and Geraldine Fasy.

Mr. Dougherty started his career in the highway industry working as a summer co-op for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation surveying and inspecting construction of I-95 through the Port Richmond neighborhood. He continued with PennDOT after graduation working in the Location Studies Unit of District 6-0 preparing preliminary designs of proposed expressways and interchange areas in the five-county area of southeastern Pennsylvania. Mr. Dougherty is a registered Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor in Pennsylvania.
Mr. Dougherty is active in the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), was appointed to the Delaware Valley Section Board of Directors in 1981, elected Section President in 1985, appointed to the National Board of Directors in 1990, and elected National President in 1997. In 2000, he received the National President's Award for outstanding service to ASHE. While Section President, he was involved in the formation of the Southern New Jersey Section of ASHE. As a representative of ASHE, Mr. Dougherty has served on the Engineers Week Council in various roles. He was elected Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year for 2000-2001 and served as Chairman of the Engineers Week Council. Mr. Dougherty continues to assist the Council by helping with arrangements for the Math and Science Teachers Workshop, Proclamation Luncheon, and the Annual Banquet. He currently serves on the Central PA Engineers week Council as a member of the Events Committee arranging for the Annual Banquet. Mr. Dougherty also served on the Board of Directors of the Engineers Club of Philadelphia and the Villanova University Engineering Alumni Society. He received the "Meritorious Service" award presented by Villanova University in 2006. He was elected Delaware County Engineer of the Year for 2003 by the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers.
Mr. Dougherty has served the community in many ways, most notably by volunteering his time and engineering skills while serving as the Engineer for the reconstruction of the historic Schofield Ford Bridge in Tyler State Park. He prepared the construction plans and was involved in the fund raising efforts, structural analyses, and construction of this two-span lattice truss covered timber bridge which replaced the one destroyed by arson in 1991.
Mr. Dougherty began his career at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and has worked for several Pennsylvania-based consulting firms since 1976, completing numerous land development and highway design projects. Significant projects include preliminary and final design and pavement studies for the reconstruction of the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76), and the proposed reconstruction of I-95 through Philadelphia.
