Paul T. Beisser, Jr., 83, of Dataw Island, SC, formerly of Malvern, PA, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
Born in 1940, Paul was raised with his brothers, Bill and Harry, in Upper Darby, PA. He attended St. Laurence Elementary School, Monsignor Bonner High School, and Bordentown Military Academy. As a highly recruited high school quarterback, Paul continued to play football at the University of Pittsburgh.
While attending Pitt, Paul married his hometown sweetheart, Eleanor (“Ellie”) DeCara. The couple began their 64 years of life together in Northeast Philadelphia, where they raised their children, Paul III and Jennifer, before relocating to Malvern, PA.
Paul began his distinguished career in the elevator industry in 1962 as an IUEC helper. He became a construction mechanic and joined Security Elevator Company in 1968. Paul advanced to construction superintendent in 1975 and later took on greater management responsibilities, ultimately becoming President/CEO in 1980. After Security was acquired by Dover Corp. in 1990, Paul served as a regional director for Dover’s elevator division until his retirement. Throughout his career, Paul earned the respect of his employees, peers, and competitors. He mentored many employees, offering guidance to help them advance their careers or start their own businesses.
Paul and Ellie were founding donors and supporters of the Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation. They helped organize fundraisers and benefit auctions for the Foundation, which, established in the early 2000s, has grown significantly and provides critical funding for medical research and patient support.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Paul enjoyed golf, a sport he took up in his 40s. He and Ellie were members of Chester Valley Country Club in Malvern, PA, and original members of the Dataw Island Club in Beaufort, SC. He was also a devoted Philadelphia Eagles fan and often engaged in spirited discussions with his Giants fan grandchildren.
Paul's greatest love was his family—his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took immense pride in his five grandchildren and was a constant, supportive presence in their lives, always there to make them smile, laugh, and feel genuinely loved. He was also fortunate to meet three great-grandchildren. Paul will be remembered for his kindness, love, honesty, and strength.
He is survived by his wife, Ellie; his children, Paul and his wife Alice (“Lollie”) of Murray Hill, NJ, and Jennifer and her husband, Benjamin Lambert of New Windsor, NY; his five grandchildren, Curtis Beisser and his wife Katie, Paul Beisser IV and his wife Rachael, Emily Beisser, Brandon Beisser, and Vero Lambert; his three great-grandchildren, Frankie, Charles, and Armand Beisser; his brother, Henry (“Harry”) Beisser and his wife Betty of Broomall, PA; his sister-in-law, Elaine DeCara Hawk and her husband Tom; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Beisser, Sr.; mother, Frances Beisser; and brother, William Beisser.
