Paul Buckley, Jr.
January 15, 1938 — April 5, 2015
Paul A. Buckley, Jr., age 76, of Havertown, PA, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.
Born on January 15, 1938 in Ridley Park, PA, he was the son of the late Dr. Paul A. Buckley and Seraphine Buckley (nee Cariello). He attended St. Michael's Parochial School and St. James Catholic High School in Chester. He was an honor student and throughout his high school years a member of the track and cross country teams. He earned a BA in English in 1959 and an MA in Theatre in 1961 from Villanova University.
After doing military service in the U.S. Army, he began a long and very successful teaching career within the school system of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
He taught English at St. James High School from 1962 until the closing of the school in 1993, then at Monsignor Bonner High School from 1993 to 2001.
He was much loved by his students for his sense of fun and ingenuity in the classroom and his highly creative dramatic productions which called forth the theatrical talents of many students. Over his 39 years of teaching, Paul had a lasting influence on many young men in Delaware County.
He was a voracious reader, his favorite book being "Moby Dick", which he read at least seven times.
He was an integral part of his close-knit neighborhood and his parish community of Sacred Heart Church. His family and friends will miss him very much.
Paul is survived by his wife Ann "Nancy" Buckley (nee McNulty), his sister Sr. Mary Ann Buckley, SHCJ, his sisters-in-law Mary and Kathleen McNulty, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Anthony J. (Sally) McNulty, Esq.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Thursday, April 9, 2015 9:30-10:20 AM Sacred Heart Church, Manoa and Shelbourne Roads, Havertown, PA and to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Sacred Heart Church, 105 Wilson Avenue, Havertown, PA 19083 would be appreciated.
