Paul V. "Duff" Duffy, Jr.

Paul Duffy, 64, of Chesterbrook, PA died February 11th, 2023 at Paoli Hospital in Paoli, PA. 

Born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, Paul developed friendships that he maintained and cherished throughout the remainder of his life. For many years, he was the Creative Director for production company Altered Image in Matawan, NJ where he cultivated friendships with other creatives who inspired him and who he admired and loved.  

For the last decade of his life, Paul worked alongside his wife Johanna Kelly at Soldier58, a business they built together.  This work opened a new chapter in Paul’s life that brought him immense joy. Paul had an eye for beauty and was a creative and talented furniture refinisher.  He loved auctions, and hunting for wonderful (sometimes quirky) works of art and beautiful furniture brought him tremendous happiness.  But most of all, he loved sharing it all with his constant companion and the love of his life. 

Paul had a great sense of humor and was a joy to be around. He loved gardening, DIY projects, a tasty cocktail, seeing live music, tending his (exceptionally large) houseplant collection, and cooking fabulous meals. 

But first and foremost, Paul was a lover of music.  

Paul appreciated just about every genre, and music always filled his home. His favorite radio station WXPN was playing all day, the evenings were devoted to digging into his large album collection or one of his curated playlists on the iPod, and Sundays were all about jazz.  Paul loved discovering new bands, musicians, or songs and he was happy to share his discoveries with the people he cared about. He was kind, generous and open; if Paul found something that he enjoyed, he wanted to share it.

Preceded in death by his parents Paul V. and Hedwig M. (Gross) Duffy.  Paul’s love and devotion to his family were evident in everything he did, and those who carry on his legacy are his four daughters, Georgia, Julia, Hanna, and Lyla; his stepson Ryan (Jackie) Schwalm and his adoring wife, Johanna. He is also survived by his brothers Pat, Mike, and Tim Duffy.  

Paul was a man with an enormous and generous heart. The family asks that the people who cared about him please consider becoming an organ donor, as he was. They also ask that any memorial donations be made to WXPN member-supported radio. 

Family and friends are invited to join in a memorial cocktail party for Paul on Saturday, February 25 from 5-7pm at the Black Powder Tavern in Wayne, PA.
