Paul E. Johnson, Sr., the fifth of seven children born to the union of the late Grafton D. Johnson, Sr. and Mary E. Johnson (nee Thomas) on August 14, 1947 at Philadelphia General Hospital, was summoned home on May 6, 2014 after a courageous battle from a short illness.
Paul was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System. After graduating from Overbrook High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served his country for a four year tour. He also attended the Philadelphia Technical School where he learned the trade of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Repair. He was gainfully employed at Sears, Roebuck & Company in Broomall and retired in 2005.
Paul, better known as Poppy, was loved by all who came in contact with him. His had a willingness to share with everyone and always gave positive words to all he met. He loved his family. He enjoyed music from the 60's, washing his cars, restoring wood furniture, watching military documentaries and spending time with his dog, Spanky.
Paul met and married his lovely wife, Clara, after a short courtship on April 26, 1969. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Clara, his sons Paul Jr. and Damon (wife Robin), his granddaughters Morgan, Courtney, Yazmyne and Zyarah, his sister Rose Pierce, his aunt, Elizabeth Hunt, his uncle Fred Pickens and a host of family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the family Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 10:30-11:00 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby (610) 449-0300 and to his Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be held at a later date at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown, PA.
