On May 29, 2023, Peggy Smith passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 88. Despite all of her hardships and obstacles, she fearlessly overcame them with resilience, grace, and a smile on her face. She was the bright light of the family and brought joy to everyone that knew her! She was a woman who loved well and was well-loved.
Peggy was born to her parents Edward and Anna in northeast Philadelphia along with her sister Nancy, and while they couldn’t be more different, their love for one another was undeniable. As a single mom, she held several jobs (often many at the same time) and did whatever it took to take care of her boys. She was one strong, powerful, independent woman who worked hard to always provide the best for her family.
She was a proud alumni of Little Flower High School and had a strong allegiance to her Sorority Sisters.
Peggy was always the life of the party, who loved sipping on Baileys while listening to Blackthorn and dancing the Irish jig. Although she was half Italian, you would never know it, she was all about her Irish heritage!
A beloved mother of Mark and late Harry, as well as her daughters-in-laws, Eileen and Kathy. Furthermore, she was the loving Meemom to Katelyn, Ashley, Mark, and Megan. You could find her spending one on one time with each one of her grandchildren, whether it was fun days at the Phillies, movie and a lunch date, or sleepovers with her. She was a lover of Elvis and Willie Nelson, which Ashley’s fiancé, Andrew, enjoyed playing for her any chance he got! She was also a wonderfully dedicated Aunt to Barb, Jim, Ed, Brian, and their families.
She was an avid Phillies fan, and could be found most Sundays down at the ballpark with her sons and grandson.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church, 3422 Dennison Avenue, Drexel Hill, PA 19026, Visitation at 9:30 AM followed by Mass at 11:00 AM, Friday June 2, 2023. Burial immediately following at Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, would be appreciated.
She will be missed by all who experienced her kindness, love, and infectious smile! Regardless of what the doctor said, the cause of death was a life well lived.
