Peter D. “Pete” Cosfol, age 69, of Broomall, PA, devoted family man, dedicated teacher, and beloved friend and member of the community sadly passed away on September 22, 2024.
Raised in Upper Darby and then Newtown Square, he was the son of the late Daniel and Dora Cosfol.
Pete was the beloved husband of Regina M. (née Nordeman) Cosfol; the loving father of Mallory Mastronardo (Matthew), Amanda Gorski (Thomas), and Elizabeth Cosfol; and the proud grandfather of Ryan Mastronardo, and Joseph, Isabel, and Max Gorski. He is predeceased by his dear siblings George Cosfol and Mary Lynn Cosfol.
Pete attended Marple Newtown High School and got his degrees from California University of PA and West Chester University. He shared his knowledge and passion for science as a teacher in the Chester Upland School District and as a teacher at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility in the evenings. He was proud to be the faculty adviser for The Chester Sustainability Project at The STEM Academy in Chester. He always brought wit to the classroom and developed strong relationships with his fellow teachers and staff.
Outside of the classroom, Pete loved playing basketball, running, golfing, and friendly competitions of softball, horseshoes, and poker throughout the years. A sports enthusiast, he was a devoted fan of the Philadelphia 76ers, Eagles, and Phillies, and passionately followed their journeys through highs and lows. He was a faithful member of the St. Anastasia parish, and volunteered with the CYO Small Fry and intramural basketball programs.
Pete loved exploring nature, bird watching, and spending time outside. He took great pleasure in gardening, creating vibrant spaces filled with color and life. He enjoyed traveling all over the world with his wife and family. In his “downtime” he was an avid reader, puzzler, and handyman.
Pete had a knack for finding humor and adding levity to any situation. He made and kept many friends from different parts of his life and never hesitated to greet people with warm conversation.
First and foremost, Pete was an exceptional husband, father, and grandfather. He put his family before all else. He and his wife Regina met as teenagers, and enjoyed 42 years of a beautiful marriage as best friends and soul mates. He was a loving, caring father in every way. He coached his daughters in softball and basketball, and was excited to show up to support them in their endeavors. He loved spending quality time bonding with his sons-in-law. He treasured his role as “Pop”; his grandchildren were the light of his life. Pete also valued his relationships with his in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will be missed dearly, and his legacy of laughter and love will live on with his family.
