Printess Lee Burney-Jowers was born on May 8, 1930 in Southport, NC to the late Joseph and Pearlie Burney. Printess spent her formative years in Supply, NC where she and her ten siblings learned the value of hard work, resilience and determination on the family farm.
Printess attended the Brunswick County School System earning her high school diploma. Upon graduation, Printess moved to Philadelphia, PA, seeking greater opportunities and reuniting with her siblings who had settled in Philadelphia earlier. In Philadelphia, she would meet and marry Benjamin (BJ) Jowers.
Printess was an employee for many years in the hospitality industry with most of those years spent at Provident National Insurance. Her culinary, entertaining and decorating expertise was appreciated by family and friends who frequented her home on holidays and special occasions. Printess had immense passion and pride in her garden, meticulously caring for her plants and flowers. She was an avid traveler, enjoying trips with her sisters or friends to Atlantic City, as well as traveling to Switzerland, Italy and Alaska.
She volunteered her time and talents to several causes but cherished her work with the Mercy Hospital Women's Auxiliary, St. Cyprian Food Bank, Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and the Walton Avenue Block Committee. Printess remained an active and devoted member of St. Carthage (later becoming St. Cyprian). She was honored to serve as a Eucharistic Minister with the Church.
Printess will be remembered for her sharp wit, candor, wisdom and no-nonsense spunk. Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of her children Andrew Clemmons (Brenda), Valarie Jowers, Jacqueline Jowers-Ellis (Kenneth), daughter-in-law Inday Jowers , her seven grandchildren Amber, Dana, Emily, Michael, Rosalina, Benjamin III, and Jericho and her three great-grandchildren, Noah, Kaydence and Ashlyn. Her husband, Benjamin Jowers, Sr. and her son, Benjamin Jowers, Jr. preceded her in death.
Also left to cherish her memory are her five siblings Sibbie Jowers, Edith Harris, Mageline Rowell (Marvin), Eva Lennon (Sterling) and Ceatrice Beard (Joseph). Her siblings Jeanette Stanley, James Burney, Joseph Burney, William McKinley Burney and Fred Brown, Jr. preceded her in death.
She also leaves many In-Laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who hold a special place in her heart.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Saturday, February 11, 2017 9:00-10:30 AM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike (cor. Lynn Blvd.), Upper Darby, PA (610) 449-0300 and to her Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM St. Cyprian Church, 525 Cobbs Creek Parkway, Philadelphia, PA. Interment Fernwood Cemetery.
