Ralph L. Urban, age 90, of Newtown Square, PA passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020.
Born in Concord Township, PA, he was the son of the late Edgar and Ethel (nee Hart) Urban. Ralph was a graduate of West Chester High School.
After serving his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army for three years, Ralph began his career at Sun Oil Company where he worked as a research and development chemist until retirement.
Ralph and his beloved wife Margy enjoyed traveling, dining out, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. He was an outstanding pitcher and hitter on his high school baseball team and spent a year in the Phillies’ organization. He later continued his stellar play in local adult leagues. He also coached youth baseball and football. He was an avid golfer and sports fan and anxiously awaited the start of baseball season each year. In addition to his Phillies, he enjoyed watching professional golf, Eagles football, and auto racing. He was a faithful Jeopardy fan and completed the crossword puzzle daily, a small part of his “mental exercise” routine. Ralph was a talented craftsman and willing to assist on any project, big or small. He was perfectionist in all he did.
Ralph is the beloved husband of the late Margaret Urban (nee Curran); the loving father of Patricia Farrell (William); the devoted grandfather of Daniel Farrell (Kelly), Michael Farrell (Stephanie) and Brian Farrell; the proud great-grandfather of Nolan Farrell. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Preston (William).
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Penn Medicine Hospice, 3535 Market St., Suite 750, Philadelphia, PA 19104, would be appreciated. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, services are private. A celebration of Ralph’s life will be held at a future date.
