Raymond J. Albed, Sr., age 79, of Wayne, PA and Cape May, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Samuel and Najla Albed (nee Birbarah). Ray was a 1957 graduate of Penn State University. He was a Sigma Pi Fraternity member and an active alumnus.
Ray spent his youth between Philadelphia and Cape May, NJ where his parents owned rug stores in both locations. He was President of Albed Rug Company from 1960-1999. He was President of ORRA for three terms and was still a member of the board of directors. He was the founder of the first Oriental Rug Fair in the United States.
Even after retirement, Ray remained active in the business, consulting when needed and as a certified appraiser. Outside of work, Ray was very active in the Lions Club and was a multi-term President of the Wayne, PA chapter.
He is survived by his wife Shirley (nee Caldwell), with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, his children Renee, Ray Jr., and Michelle, who have all participated in working for the Albed Rug Company, his sister Laurice, his daughter-in-law, Nancy and his grandson, Thomas and his niece and nephew and many cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Life Celebration Monday, November 3, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Wayne Presbyterian Church, 125 E. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA. Interment is private.
