Regina K. McMahon (nee McRae) of Cochranville, Pennsylvania passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 surrounded by her family. Jeannie was born and raised in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of St. Laurence School in Upper Darby and Archbishop Prendergast High School in Drexel Hill.
To know Jeannie was to love her. She was young at heart and the life of every party. She never met a dance floor she didn’t like. She loved her family beyond measure and was a devoted wife, mother, Mom Mom, and sister. Jeannie met Joey in 1977 and it was love at first sight. They were married within 9 months and 46 years later she was still his girl, and forever will be. Two years later, Jeannie got her dream job and the most important one, "mother." A stay at home Mom for many years, Jeannie was the epitome of a fun Mom – from long days at the pool, to over the top birthday parties, to being the ultimate Upper Darby Little League fan, Jeannie made every day for her children magical. She followed in the footsteps of her own mother by being the most fun Mom Mom she could be – always ready to play wiffle ball or have a catch, to play doctor’s office, or just be silly. She loved having “sister dates” and looked forward to her frequent lunches and walks with Anne Marie and Kathy.
Jeannie was a devout Catholic who loved and took great pride in her faith and who held a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. She believed strongly in the power of prayer and had a lengthy special intentions list that included her entire extended family, all of her children’s friends, many acquaintances and strangers who were ill or in need, and even some questionable celebrities who caused her concern. If you had a problem, Jeannie had a novena for that. Jeannie was very active and full of life – after moving to Chester County in 2013 she found joy in the outdoors and when she wasn’t attending daily mass, or popping into a church for a holy hour, she was “walking with the Lord” (her phrase for walking while praying the rosary) at Wolf’s Hollow, the Struble Trail, or Longwood Gardens.
Jeannie is survived by her husband, Joseph, her children, Shana (Fran) Nelling, Ryan, and Megan (Shaun) Sykes, grandchildren Cormac and Aidan Nelling, her sisters Anne Marie Kochersperger and Kathleen McRae, in laws Mickey and Anne McMahon, Marie Quinn, Kevin and Suzanne Ray, Jim and Regina Halligan, Brian and Eileen McMahon, Paul and Kathy McMahon, and Timothy McMahon, and many nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her lifelong friends the Good Time Girls and her close friends at Sacred Heart Church in Oxford, Pennsylvania – her family thanks you for the many years of laughter and joy you’ve brought to her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Regina McRae, her husband’s parents, Mickey and Marie McMahon, her brother in law, Joseph Kochersperger, and her great nephew, Baby Sammy Lessard.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, July 15th and 9:00-10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 16th at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082, followed by her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 8245 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA 19082. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jeannie McMahon Memorial Fundraiser benefitting the Foresight Fund for Retinoblastoma Research. More information is provided and donations may be made at www.alexslemonade.org/2024/jeannie-mcmahon-memorial-fundraiser
