Reginald Lee Speir, Jr.

Reginald Lee “Reg” Speir, Jr. of Newtown Square, PA, passed away on April 9, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born in Lynchburg, VA, he was the son of the late Reginald Lee and Shirley Elizabeth (Hudson) Speir.

Reginald dedicated over 40 years to education as a teacher and administrator at Lamberton and Central High School in Philadelphia. His commitment to his students and community was reflected in his active involvement in school activities and his efforts to foster an environment of growth and learning.

More than just an educator, Reginald was a passionate coach of tennis and soccer, leading his teams to multiple championships throughout the Philadelphia region. His mentorship had a lasting impact on countless young athletes, guiding them not only in their sporting endeavors but also in their personal development.

One of Reginald's proudest accomplishments lay in the bonds he formed with his golden retrievers as an avid dog trainer, ultimately earning the prestigious OTCH—Obedience Trial Champion—title, and receiving an invitation to compete in the Masters Obedience Championship at Westminster. This honor reflected his perseverance, skill, and the deep respect he earned in the competitive dog training community.

Reg’s great sense of humor was matched only by his wide-ranging interests. He had a love for music, technology, psychology, photography, skiing, traveling, scuba diving, competitive sports, politics, history and more. A gifted musician, he played the guitar, piano, and trumpet, and was a talented singer who starred in numerous high school musicals. He even released a record in his youth. He was also an avid golfer who cherished the sport and the friendships it nurtured.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sally (Baughman) Speir; his children, Ryan Speir and Christine Ryan; and six adored grandchildren: James Ryan, Wesley Speir, Alice Ryan, Whitney Speir, John Ryan, and Samantha Speir. He is also survived by his loving sister, Cheryl Leigh Speir, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A Celebration of Life Service will be planned for a future date.
