Reverend Sidney C. Burgoyne, Pastor Emeritus, Saint John Fisher Church, Boothwyn, died at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital on Friday, December 6, 2013.



Father Burgoyne was born on December 23, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Sidney Crowley Burgoyne and the late Marie Catherine Sweeney. Father Burgoyne attended Immaculate Conception Parochial School, Philadelphia, and LaSalle College High School, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.



Father Burgoyne was ordained on May 8, 1954, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, by Archbishop John F. O'Hara. Father Burgoyne served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Ann Church, Lansford; Saint Martin of Tours Church, New Hope; Saint Stanislaus Church, Lansdale; Seven Dolors Church, Wyndmoor; and Saint Laurence Church, Upper Darby. Father Burgoyne also served on the faculty at Cardinal Dougherty High School, Philadelphia; Bishop McDevitt High School, Wyncote; and Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook. In 1984, Father Burgoyne was named Pastor, Saint John Fisher Church, Boothwyn, and Pastor Emeritus in 2000.



A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Most Reverend Louis A. DeSimone at Saint Denis Parish, Havertown, at 11:00 AM. Assisting at the altar will be Reverend John J. Ames, Reverend Monsignor William A. Dombrow, Reverend Kevin J. Gallagher, Reverend Monsignor Daniel J. Sullivan and Reverend Joseph J. Quindlen. Reverend Joseph J. Quinlen will be the Homilist.



Father Burgoyne is survived by his sister, Eleanor M. Burgoyne, his niece, Pamela Lawler and his nephews, Stephen R. Rainey and Sidney Burgoyne.



Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia.
