Rev. Monsignor Arthur J. Nace, J.C.D., age 88, of Darby, PA, passed away on August 13, 2016 at St. Francis Country House. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late William J. and Madeleine M. Nace (nee O'Neill).
Monsignor Nace was a graduate of Incarnation School, St. Joseph's Preparatory School, St. Joseph University, where he was "the Hawk: for the St. Joseph's University basketball team. He received a Master's Degree from Temple University. He then attended St. Charles Seminary. He was ordained a priest on May 11, 1957 and celebrated his first Mass in Holy Angels Church, Oak Lane. He received a Doctorate degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in Europe during World War II..
He served in St. Jerome's Parish, Tamaqua, PA and on the faculty of Cardinal Dougherty High School. He was appointed Assistant Controller for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 1961 and Controller in 1965. He spent his last years in ministry as Chaplain of Sacred Heart Hospital, Norristown, PA, his truest passion.
Art has not only accepted his eternal reward, but the Divine Assurance the the Hawk will never die!
Monsignor Nace was predeceased by his siblings, William T. Nace, Eileen Steer and Robert J. Nace. He is survived by his sisters Madeliene Nace, Therese Ryan and Patricia M. Campbell, 26 nieces and nephews and 62 grand nieces and nephews.
Relatives, friends and fellow clergy are invited to his viewing Wednesday, August 17, 2016 6:00-8:00 PM and Thursday, August 18, 2016 9:30-10:50 AM St. Dorothy Church, 4910 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA and to his Funeral Mass 11am. Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
